Asynchronous Javascript and XML (AJAX) is a technology which provides users with a better user interface than the standard GET/POST sequence of viewing pages on the web. Using Ajax, a small portion(s) of the screen can be updated while the remainder of the page remains static in the browser. Browsers have been Ajax-capable for some time, but it is only in the last two years that developers have become attuned to this technology. In this session, you will learn all about Ajax and then, how it is implemented in ASP.NET. Using the Ajax Extensions for .NET and the Ajax Control Toolkit, developers can create useful and just plain cool user interface features with a minimal amount of effort.

Harvey is a Senior Developer at Information Management Consultants in Reston VA and is currently on semi-permanent assignment at the National Cancer Institute in Rockville.  He works full time in J2EE, but gives classes and seminars in .NET and other topics at Montgomery College and in other venues. 

Many WCF developers start and end with the Request/Response Message Exchange Pattern.  In actuality, there is a wide variety of Message Exchange Patterns cataloged by Hohpe and Woolfe in books like “Enterprise Integration Patterns” and Pattern & Practices “Integration Patterns.” In this advanced talk, that starts where most WCF talks leave off, we will show you how to build more loosely-coupled services and systems via these MEPs and with WCF. We will then focus on the powerful List-Based Publish/Subscribe Design Pattern. Upon showing how many lines of WCF code are required to implement the pattern in WCF, we will show the pattern as the basis for the Neuron ESB and achieve the same results with zero code. We will then focus on Mediation and how ESBs help mediate between disparate services.

Sam is the SOA Practice Lead for Neudesic, LLC, where he uses WCF, Neuron, WF and BizTalk in delivering Real-World SOA solutions together with Microsoft. Sam was recently awarded the MVP award for Connected Systems for the 4th consecutive year. Sam is also an INETA Speaker, delivering advanced SOA and .NET training all over the world.

This session will explore how WCF and WF can work together to support the concept of Workflow Services. After a very brief introduction to WF and WCF, we will take a detailed look at key scenarios enabled by Workflow Services including: better data exchange in and out of workflow, enforcing an application protocol on service methods and inheriting WF capabilities such as persistence into a WCF service.

Vishwas Lele is AIS Chief Technology Officer and a noted industry speaker and author. Vishwas is the Microsoft Regional Director for the Washington, D.C. area and a Microsoft MVP. Prior to joining AIS, Vishwas worked for Tata Unisys and Microstrategy.
